Gratitude is one of the best characteristics of people. Though the ways to express it vary, but the essence is always the same – to be grateful to a person who had great contribution to any important activity.
The ways of expressing gratitude are various. And one of them is naming a street or an auditorium in honour of a prominent person. But no one knows why they do it when the person has already passed away. And it rarely happens when a person is honoured during his lifetime.
One of these people is Professor Ruben Aghuzumtsyan, PhD in psychology, head of Psychology of Governance at the Public Administration Academy of RA. In 2015, when the professor was in the Ijevan branch of Yerevan State University, a surprise was waiting for him. Head of YSU Ijevan branch Samvel Arakelyan, PhD in history, assistant professor, leaded the professor to one of the university classrooms which met them with a signboard marked ‘Professor Ruben Aghuzumtsyan’s auditorium’. It is very difficult to say what kind of emotions filled the 70-year old professor’s heart. He remembers how he entered the auditorium and greeted the students: “Do you know who Ruben Aghuzumtsyan is, whose name bears this auditorium? If you don’t, let’s get acquainted. I am Ruben Aghuzumtsyan”.
Even today after three years Mr. Aghuzumtsyan is getting excited when he remembers the moment of expression of gratitude. And it is equivalent to the merit that the professor contributed to the Ijevan branch of YSU: he has been the Dean of Faculty of humanities and had a great contribution in foundation of the Chair of psychology and pedagogy, in its practices and accomplishment of the staff. Samvel Arakelyan remembers this and adds that some of Aghuzumtsyan’s students work as professors at the university.
Ruben Aghuzumtsyan doesn’t teach in Ijevan, but he is always in close connection with the Chair he has once founded. He is often hosted there and, of course never empty-handed. He takes literature on psychology with him and books that are published by the PAARA Chair of Psychology he is heading. So, the Chair of psychology and pedagogy at YSU Ijevan branch is constantly in the focus of the professor and the staff of the Chair of Public Administration Academy of RA.
On his latest visit a customary surprise was waiting for him. The building of YSU Ijevan branch has been fundamentally repaired, and the new generation of future psychologists start their path to science in the comfortable auditorium bearing Professor Ruben Aghuzumtsyan’s name. It is not only very pleasant to study here but it’s also binding. They will always be enjoying the prominent psychologist’s professional assistance and encouragement, won’t they?
